Mixed Up stills
A week or so into filming and apparently everything is going well.
“The best thing I’ve ever worked on” was one wildly over-enthusiastic response.
Hmm … well, we’ll see.
For those of you who haven’t checked out the Facebook group, here are a few stills:
Lisa McCallister and Faye Tozer … with Lee Otway and Staten Eliot hiding off to one side.
Katia Winter and Giles Alderson.
Adele Silva and Zara Dawson.
And of course:
Sylvester McCoy, obviously repairing the TARDIS there. I think the next Doctor should definitely carry a big bastard drill around with him. There are very few problems in life which can’t be solved with a big drill.
“EXTERMIN– Argh! Get off! Jesus Christ, he’s drilling through my head!”
There are a load more stills, but I’m not 100% certain which ones I’m allowed to show you. There are one or two I’m pretty certain aren’t for general consumption - but I’ll post updates if and when I’m given the all clear.
Remarkably, so far I’ve only had one ad-hoc re-write: a new cameo to squeeze in another bit of named talent. It appears they’re just filming what I wrote without fuss … either that or they’re just making shit up on the spot.
Either way, it’s forging merrily ahead.
I’ll keep you informed as I find out more.

This whole script, filming, stars, movie thing…
Doesn’t it, well, blow your mind? I mean it’s real and not a pipe dream for you.
C’mon Phill - what’s the secret of your success? Is it all pure talent or is bribery and corruption involved laced with sex, drugs and the Croydon Advertiser?
We do have one in thing in common - I’ve not been mentioned in the national press this week.

Does it blow my mind? No, not really.
I’ve worked hard to get here, but here is just a point on the journey and absolutely nowhere compared to where I want to be. Because I’ve been working my way up slowly and methodically it all feels natural and right - this film may very well be the best or the highest point of my career so far …
(all judgements reserved until I see the final cut)
… but it’s only a small step away from the last film, which is a small step from the film before that. I’ve been having stuff filmed or performed for years now - I’m used to seeing it on the stage, telly or cinema screen.
Obviously, yes it’s still exciting - but it’s also kind of normal now.
As to the secret of my success …
Define success, okay I’m getting stuff made but I’m hardly getting millions per picture or being offered my own TV series or anything like that. This isn’t success, it’s just part of the journey.
If there’s a secret, it’s just what I said in my posts on strategy:
Write as much as is possible.
Apply for every job imaginable.
Repeat.
Talent’s probably important - but I personally don’t possess more than anyone else (I stand by my mediocrity) the thing for me was lowering my initial expectations and starting from the bottom.
