I'm a UK scriptwriter who's had nine feature films produced. I've also had some bits and bobs on TV and co-created the first smartphone broadcast, app-drama series, PERSONA.
Now in its thirteenth year, this blog is mostly a chronicle of my career; but it's also an insight into the grubby bits of writing no one really tells you about.
Reality here has been stretched, altered, bent and completely ignored to make my life funnier, more interesting or just different for the sake of it.
Please don't take offence.

A new ... service(?)
Probably not the right word.
I've become oddly curious about talking to new people on the phone.
If you find yourself at a loose end and fancy a chat, email me and we'll see if we can arrange a phone call.
It can be about writing or not. Whatever you like.

Congratulations! Bloody good show.
Aw, congratulations. How adorable. She also looks very wise x
Congratulations! She’s adorable, and already in a beanie, the best of all the hats.
Well done sir. Hope family are all doing well.
Ahhhh. Congratulations to you both. x
She’s either really laid back or flexing her biceps. Well done Barron Snr.
OH MY GOD. How cute is she????
Think I’m going to have another baby very soon, thanks to you, you swine.
Oh dear. Reading that back that sounds rather dodgy doesn’t it???
You the daddy!
Awwww congratulations Phill! That’s the cutest thing i’ve ever seen since I saw a baby monkey yawn at the zoo!
Congratulations Phill!
Already staring contemplatively into the middle distance. Precocious, that one.
Congrats, she’s beautiful.
Nice one. Enjoy.
haha! Lucy, lets hope Phil’s missus doesn’t read this blog. I know mine doesn’t read my one.
Wow, look at that. You grew a whole other person. Well done both of you! Congratulations.
Wonderful!
Don’t you dare make me broody! 😀
Is this your first? I have three and the time just vanishes. Savour every last second because this time will be gone before you know it.
Curiously I wrote a poem in my head in bed last night when our 5 year old boy climbed in with us in the early hours…
MY SON
Beyond the pane, the elements groan
The wind emits a climatic moan
Beside me here, my son does sleep
Oblivious to the darkness’ creep
I glance at him now, a work of art
A joy to behold from the very start
No frown or scowl, a boy at peace
He lies so silent in his slumbers’ fleece
Rushing headlong, the mankind race
The future before us sets a challenging pace
Cannot be avoided, it’s coming for sure
A search for the truth, a freedom so pure
What beholds for my precious son
Will he fill his life with distance run
One thing for sure, there is no regret
This time with my child I shall never forget
I wish you huge congrats, and as much sleep as you can get! Nice one.
Congratulations to both of you, and hello and welcome to Alice.
3:45am! What do you think? Is she going to be a night owl, or an early riser?
As you earn your living as a full-time screenwriter I expect that when talking to your daughter you will utter memorable statements that show your thoughtful insights and masterly command of the English language. Deep and profound words with a philosophical resonance that will reverberate and delight the intellect for many a year such as, coochy-coochy-coochy-cooee and, The little pig went wee wee weee, all the way home. . .

“A baby is God’s opinion that life should go on. Never will a time come when the most marvelous recent invention is as marvelous as a newborn baby. The finest of our precision watches, the most super-colossal of our supercargo planes don’t compare with a newborn baby.” (Carl Sandberg, historian, 1878-1967)
She is utterly gorgeous. And it’s better to have a baby in the summer. Somehow those early mornings and baggy eyed exhaustion (yours) aren’t quite so bad when the sun is shining.
And just think of all the reams of new material, being a parent is going to give you.
I used to write loads of stuff for Newsrevue. I enjoyed it muchly, but I don’t think I was ever paid a penny. Situation hasn’t changed then . . . .
Woo-hoo!
How are you surviving those sleepless nights?
She’s lovely. Good on both of you. 🙂
congratulations Mr Barron. won’t be long before she’s asking for the car keys. not. long. at all.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! She is absolutely beautiful 🙂
